Buried Talents

I was left this plot of land,
The only to ever be mine.
To farm couldn't sate me,
So I dug deeper to mine.
I upturned all the land,
Made it into a waste,
Till not a blade of grass
Stuck out from the debris.
However thoroughly I sifted,
I found no precious ores.
Perhaps there are none here,
But I am stuck now where I am.
Come so far I carried on:
One find makes it worthwhile.
But I cut ever deeper to my core,
Until I opened hell to heaven.
I hadn’t seen such bright luster,
Since I last walked under the sun.
Now I'll get what I wished for,
A light to replace the sun's.
