Samsara

A prisoner alone in his cell
Spent all his time digging,
And swore never to rest,
Until the time he would be free.
When the darkness of the tunnel,
With a burst of light came to its end,
He broke through to the other side,
To gasp the air of another cell.
For some time he lost his senses,
And lay laughing on the ground,
Under the light of the same lamp,
That he'd come to know so well.
But he could only try again,
And so he kept on digging,
For the rest of his entire life,
From one cell to another.
Would he but take the time,
To adjust his eyes to the light,
He'd see the lamp was the sun,
And the prison has no roof.
