Alter Ego

God fell into the darkness
Of a deep sleep's dream once more,
Again to forget who it was,
And that it had ever been alone.
To think itself one of many,
And reach out to another for help.
Though we are all but the thoughts
Of a God that's lost in thought.
Never did it pass through its mind,
Until the moment it awakened,
That every one it's ever known
Was just another alter ego:
Like dead ends in a labyrinth
That it had reached before,
As it was seeking for the center
That it fled when it found it once more.
Upon waking it sought the God
That would set all things alright;
Again to faint when it found out,
That no one would ever be there.
