Isolation

I sought a place the ice would melt,
But before I could I fell right through.
I struggled to hold on to any floe,
If only to leap from one to another,
But all the floes slipped from under me,
And broke whenever I tried to stand,
None would try to bear my weight
Now I had once been in the water.
I have to bite through the cold;
And be very careful with the ice.
The more I flounder in the water,
The more the ice breaks around me.
