Income inequality could be reduced without coercion by using time as an alternative currency, which would pay people for their work with the amount of time that it took. With a few exceptions, people in any occupation could work as slowly as they want to, but competition would select people who work faster. Of course, there is more competition in sectors in which the supply of work is greater than the demand, so that people in those sectors can work slower, but this will in turn increase competition and create more jobs in those sectors. Requiring every earning to be registered at the time it was made, and recording when every registration was made, would make forgery very obvious, since one cannot go back in time to work in the past.
